Burnquist Defies Age and Gravity to Claim his Fourth X Games Big Air Gold
Bob Burnquist Comes Out on Top Despite the Rise of the Young
In a battle of young guns versus seasoned vets, Bob Burnquist took the throne for the fourth time in seven X Games Big Air Final appearances. Burnquist who had previously injured his lower back on Tuesday, received the green light the morning of the competition.
“The X Games have been a great event, being at this event as big as this stage with the skating this good, I couldn’t have done it without everyone who was there helping me out, including my wife,” said Burnquist. “I definitely couldn’t have done this alone.”
After struggling early, Burnquist nailed his third run with a score of 94.33 that included an Indy 720 over to Fakie and squatting out the run.
15-year-old Mitchie Brusco won his first X Games medal, taking home silver with runs that included sticking a 720 over the gap to a 900 for a score of 93.00 off the 50-foot jump. Brusco became just the second person in history to land a 900 in Big Air.
“I’m the happiest person alive right now, I did runs I never thought I could, I couldn’t have done anything more and everything worked out,” commented Brusco. “Pulling the 900 off the 70-footer was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done.”
Rounding out the podium was Nolan Munroe of Rindge, N.H. who earned his first X Games medal with a score of 91.00. Munroe made a name for himself by landing the biggest McTwist to date – at a height of 20-feet-two inches for a score of 91.00.
“I’m so amped right now. It’s my first contest and to share the podium with Bob and Mitchie is great,” said an excited Munroe. “I’m so happy to land the run I wanted.”

X GAMES LOS ANGELES 2012
X Games Los Angeles 2012 will return to Los Angeles, Calif., June 28 – July 1, 2012, with live coverage on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. This year will mark the 10th consecutive year the event will be held in Los Angeles and will feature more than 200 of the world’s best athletes in the sports of BMX Freestyle, Rally Car, Moto X and Skateboard.
