Texas Native Colten Moore Takes Gold in Snowmobile Freestyle
Over the last three years, Texas native Colten Moore has pushed the envelope in the Snowmobile Freestyle event, but each year he just missed the medal stand.
He came to Winter X Games Aspen 2012 determined to capture a medal and he did just that, winning gold with a winning score of 93.66.
“This year I have been a little behind in my training, I have been practicing a lot and I knew I had to come out and stomp the best run of my life,” Moore said. “I knew I had to bring everything I had and then some. I can’t believe it.”
Moore’s winning run included a Superman seat-grab to nothing, no-handed backflip, Cordova flip, cliffhanger, backflip heel-clicker switchblade, a ruler-indy flip and a kiss-of-death. And to celebrate the run, he Tebowed
“I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with a Tebow,” Moore added with a smile.
The silver medal went to Joe Parsons, who had a top score of 90.66. Although happy with the medal, Parson is already looking toward next year.
“I was charged up trying to catch up to Colten but I got too amped up and overrode,” Parsons said. “I rode great but I am determined to come back next year for the gold.
For the third consecutive year, Colten’s older brother Caleb Moore took the bronze medal. Caleb admitted that while he is happy for his brother, he wouldn’t mind trading places with him on the podium.
“He has worked his butt off,” Caleb said of his brother Colten. “It’s insane. I’m a little bit jealous. For him to get the first gold is a little frustrating because we always compete, but at the end of the day we’re brothers and I’m so pumped.”
The Snowmobile Freestyle course consists of varied snow jumps and metal ramps of varying lengths and angles for riders to execute multiple tricks throughout their run. Judging is based on overall impression of trick execution, degree of difficulty, use of course, originality and style.
