Flying High Again
Brown is Back On Top in Ski Big Air
Thanks to a bevy of tricks including a switch double cork 1440 and a switch double misty 1260, Bobby Brown took the top spot in Ski Big Air at Winter X Games Aspen 2012.
“It’s all about consistency,” Brown said of his runs. “It’s not about someone coming out with the gnarliest trick ever, it’s just about laying it down when you need to. I am just really stoked. Everyone is at such a high level now no one person is that much further ahead than anyone else.”
With the win, Brown returned to the top spot he secured in 2010 after grabbing silver in the event in 2011. He held off a hard-charging Winter X Games rookie, Kai Mahler.
The 16-year old jumped on the Big Air scene with a score of 84 and could hardly contain his excitement.
“A dream came true for me definitely. I am super stoked right now and I can’t believe I got silver,” Mahler added.
New Zealand’s Jossi Wells finished a point behind Mahler with 83 to grab bronze.
“Coming out tonight I just really wanted to ski the best I could and did that,” Wells said.
The Big Air course is approximately 300 feet and made up of a single 80-foot step-up jump. The competition featured snowboarders who each attempted a single trick off the feature in a jam session format. Skiing Big Air is judged on aggressive execution of maneuvers, degree of difficulty, variety of tricks, originality and style.

Winter X Games Aspen 2012 returns to Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., January 26-29, 2012, with live coverage on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. This year marks the 11th consecutive year the event is being held in Aspen and features more than 200 of the world’s best athletes in the sports of Skiing, Snowboarding and Snowmobile. In addition to 16 hours of live programing on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC, more than nine hours of Winter X Games Aspen content will be offered on ESPN3 and 25 hours on ESPN 3D.
