George Steinbrenner, who celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4, passed away early Tuesday morning from a massive heart attack. In 2006, ESPN Original Entertainment developed an eight-part series adapted from Jonathan Mahler’s bestseller, “The Bronx is Burning,” a non-fiction recounting of baseball’s triumph over the turmoil and hysteria of 1977 New York City, and how one team — the New York Yankees — came to embody all of the hopes and fears of an unforgettable summer. “The Bronx is Burning” debuted on ESPN in July 2007, marking the 30th anniversary of the New York Yankees first World Series championship under the ownership of George Steinbrenner.
