ESPN’s SC Featured on SportsCenter will tell the extraordinary story of Blackstone Valley senior Colin Dorgan on Sunday, July 26 during the 8 a.m. ET edition.
On February 16, 2026, Blackstone Valley’s senior night was shattered when Colin’s father entered the rink and fatally shot Colin’s mother, Rhonda, brother, Aidan and grandfather, Gerald. In the days that followed, there was little expectation Colin would ever lace up his skates again. Then, on the eve of the Rhode Island state hockey playoffs, he sent his coach a simple text message.
“Coach I’ll see you tomorrow.”
With reporting by ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap, the SC Featured chronicles Colin’s courageous decision to return to the ice alongside his teammates and the remarkable playoff run that followed—one that captivated the hockey community and inspired countless others.
“This is a story about an unspeakable tragedy, perpetrated by Colin’s own father, and it is also the story of Colin’s decision to continue to play in its aftermath,” said Schaap. “What then unfolded during the state hockey playoffs is too unlikely to be anything but reality.”
Featuring intimate interviews with Colin, his sister Ava, Blackstone Valley hockey head coach Chris Librizzi and those closest to the team, the feature explores how a community rallied around one young man during the darkest chapter of his life.
“We were honored that Colin—along with his sister Ava, coach Librizzi and so many others—sat down with us,” Schaap said. “This is a sports story, a hockey story, but much more. It’s about resilience in the face of unbearable loss.”
The feature will debut Sunday, July 26during the 8 a.m. hour of SportsCenter on ESPN and will re-air in additional editions of the show throughout the day.
