College Basketball GameDay Corner

The College GameDay team held a mock draft last Saturday for “College Basketball’s Best Starting Five” during the show’s stop at the University of Missouri
ESPN’s College GameDay Covered by State Farm will make a first-time visit to the campus of Vanderbilt University – Saturday, Feb. 11 (10 a.m., ESPNU; 11 a.m. & 8 p.m., ESPN) and will also be on ESPN 3D.  The weekly show originates from the site of ESPN’s Saturday Primetime Presented by DIRECTV telecast – this week showcasing No. 1 Kentucky at Vanderbilt (9 p.m., ESPN, ESPN3 & ESPN 3D).

Rece Davis serves as point guard for the College GameDay desk, and is joined by analysts Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps and Hubert Davis. Dan Shulman, Dick Vitale and Erin Andrews have the call of the primetime game.

This week’s special College GameDay segment will highlight undefeated Murray State.

The heat of basketball season is palpable on ESPNU this week with Rivalry Week games a never-before-seen glimpse into the life of ESPN’s Dick Vitale, and the debut of the first SEC “Storied” documentary focusing on college basketball. It’s Awesome, Baby!

Wednesday (6 p.m.) All-Access: Dick Vitale at North Carolina and Duke follows one of sport television’s most recognizable voices at his home in Sarasota, where he spends time with his five grandchildren, and during his ESPN college basketball work-week, that includes calling a game at North Carolina and Duke

Saturday(9 p.m.) 40 Minutes of Hell explores the rise, fall and re-birth of the legendary coach, Nolan Richardson, and a time when the state of Arkansas was at the epicenter of American culture. Featuring interviews with former President Bill Clinton and current Arkansas coach Mike Anderson, the documentary tells the story of the man behind the men’s basketball dynasty of the early 1990s and a playing style no one will forget.

Spotlight:
Play 4Kay, Women’s Basketball Initiative

ESPN will support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund®, in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, for women’s cancer research during its sixth annual initiative, now entitled Play 4Kay, and its women’s basketball games on Sunday, Feb. 12 and Monday, Feb. 13. The Fund is named in memory of former North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow, who died Jan. 24, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer.

Part of the Play 4Kay initiative includes coverage across several ESPN entities with in-studio presence, on ESPN.com, espnW and the Bottom Line, and much more.

What do you get when you cross paint, faces and rivalries?

ESPN is spotlighting the many faces of hoops rivalries this week as part of a special video created for the network’s Rivalry Week initiative. The video features a compilation of ESPN employees sporting face paint symbolizing a school logo or mascot with game highlights to the tune of Tokyo Police Club’s “Favourite Colour.” Check out the video and an ESPN Front Row post on how it all came together.

The weekend women’s college basketball schedule is highlighted ESPN’s Play 4Kay initiative and a slate of ranked teams.

  • Play 4Kay will showcase eight regionalized games in high definition within two ESPN2 telecast windows on Sunday at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., plus a full-national telecast on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, and also two Big Monday Presented by Bud Light games on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
  • Two exclusive games on ESPN3 including an ACC tilt between Georgia Tech and North Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m.
