While various vocalists from Billie Holliday to Janis Joplin have recorded George Gershwin’s Summertime – originally penned for the 1935 opera Porgy and BessJohn Anderson is obviously not familiar with the opening line: “Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.”

Anderson’s day today began at 6 a.m. ET on ESPN Radio and ESPN2 (subbing for Mike Greenberg) alongside co-host Mike Golic on ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike.

His day will end at 8 p.m. tonight on ESPNEWS at the end of a the two-hour, 6 p.m. SportsCenter.

Considering the barrage of breaking news expected today, Anderson will need be well-rested and fresh.

“It’s not the getting up early that’s the problem, it’s the trying to go to bed early the night before,” Anderson said. “I’ll go for a run after doing radio and before our meeting for SportsCenter — that’ll keep me refreshed.”

Anderson will be sharing his long day with as disparate a combination of partners as one could imagine — sharing doughnuts with Golic, and news and interviews with SportsCenter anchor Linda Cohn.

“Golic makes it easy — actually all the guys on the show do,” Anderson said. “And I’m not sure where LCo [Cohn] ranks among my all-time favorite co-anchors, but she’s in my Top 1.”
