ESPN’s coverage of Super Bowl XLVIII kicked off Monday morning at 6 a.m. ET from Herald Square on 34th Street and Broadway in the heart of New York City. Fans who watch from home, especially those accustomed to watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade, should recognize the familiar location in front of the flagship Macy’s department store. The show lineup includes daily editions of Mike & Mike (6-10 a.m.), The Herd with Colin Cowherd (10 a.m.-1 p.m.), NFL Insiders (3-4 p.m.), NFL Live (4-5 p.m.) and SportsCenter (6 and 11 p.m.).
In the video above, Seth Markman, a senior coordinating producer who oversees ESPN’s NFL studio shows (and is a native of nearby Hightstown, N.J.) discusses why he and his team chose Herald Square as ESPN’s primary Super Bowl location. He also explains what he expects this week from the company’s NFL analyst team, a group that has amassed a combined 17 Super Bowl rings in 29 appearances.
In addition to Herald Square, some ESPN shows will originate from a secondary set at Times Square Studios, while ESPN2’s First Take will come from Bryant Park and Sedano & Stink’s nightly ESPN Radio broadcast will be based at Radio Row in the NFL media center. In total, more than 115 hours of ESPN TV and radio will originate from New York City. Complete schedule.
