When Clemson defeated Alabama 44-16 to win the College Football Playoff national championship game Monday night in Santa Clara, Calif., the victory was the cherry on top of a nearly two-week experience for one Tigers fan.

As the Orlando Sentinel reports, Florida resident and Clemson alum Nancy Godwin Volland descended a 45-foot-tall ESPN billboard in San Jose, Calif., on Monday after camping out for 12 days during the College Football Playoff. She was one of four fans who climbed the billboard’s platform on Dec. 27 in a contest for prizes leading up to the national championship game at 8 p.m. Monday between No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Clemson. She tells the Sentinel about her experience and why she felt her 12 days overlooking San Jose was worthwhile here.
