Best ‘Fanwich’ a San Francisco treat

The competition was intense, but the suspense is over.

The Matt Cain: World Championship Edition sandwich — pictured above — has won ESPN’s “Fanwiches” contest, designed to find the best sports-inspired sandwich in the country.

Ike’s Place in San Francisco earned the most votes for a sandwich inspired by a sports figure. Their inspiration: San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain’s scoreless-inning streak in the 2010 postseason.

As Front Row’s Kevin Ota detailed last week, the promotion has been hailed by the likes of Fast Company magazine as being among the most creative campaigns of the year.
