I don’t like ducks or fast-food sandwiches, and I think the number 99 is for spring training baseball players you’ll never see again.

Those were just my thoughts that mixed with nerves as I anticipated interviewing  one of NASCAR’s most popular drivers, Carl Edwards. He’s sponsored by Aflac and Subway, and drives the No. 99 car.

Seriously, six years ago, I hated NASCAR and public speaking — like the above on-camera interview.

Then I went to qualifying at what was then known as the Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.  I was blown away — by qualifying! — and have been a NASCAR fan since.

I still hate public speaking (above, you’ll see why).

But Carl — visiting Bristol in anticipation of the start of ESPN’s coverage of the Brickyard 400 on July 31 — made this as painless as possible.

Thanks, Carl, and good luck at The Brickyard.
