Last summer, two members of Steubenville, Ohio’s Big Red high school football program, quarterback Trent Mays and wide receiver Ma’Lik Richmond, were accused of raping a 16-year-old girl during a night of partying. Social media sites exploded with disturbing video, Tweets and photos referring to the alleged incident. John Barr reports.

Last year, three of the Feature Unit Sunday features swept the storytelling categories at the Sports Emmys, winning Short Feature (“Time Out of Mind), Long Feature (“The Man in the Red Bandanna’) and Edited Special (“Joplin: City of Hope).

A Sobering Rushing-the-Court Story

Last week’s court-rushing incident following the Duke-Virginia game got the reportorial juices of producer Willie Weinbaum flowing. In 2007 he and Mark Schwarz did an Outside the Line piece on the accelerating fad of rushing the court — and its consequences. This week Weinbaum re-connected with the subjects of that piece: Joe Kay, a former Tucson High senior basketball player whose injuries incurred during post-game chaos left him partially paralyzed, and Gerry Plunkett, wife of former NFL quarterback Jim Plunkett, who was sitting near sitting near the court and was pinned under her chair during a rush.
