One of England’s storied links golf courses will host the world’s top women’s golfers for the Ricoh Women’s British Open as ESPN2, ESPN3 and WatchESPN air three hours of live coverage of each of the championship’s four rounds. Play will air Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 13-16, from 9 a.m. – noon ET from the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, Liverpool, England.
In addition to the daily live coverage, one hour of final-round highlights will air on ABC at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.
The venue for The Open Championship 11 times, the latest in 2006, Royal Liverpool will be hosting its first Ricoh Women’s British Open. The Par 72, 6,600-yard course is the second-oldest seaside links golf course in England and only a few of the holes are shielded from the ever-changing winds that make links golf so challenging.
World No. 1 Yani Tseng will be looking for her third consecutive win in the Women’s British Open. Lydia Ko, the 15-year-old amateur who won the recent Canadian Open, also will compete as will seven-time major winner Julie Inkster, who is returning to play after elbow surgery and hopes to win the only major missing from her resume.
Other Americans expected to compete include Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson, World No. 2 Stacy Lewis and No. 10 Cristie Kerr.
Terry Gannon will anchor ESPN’s coverage, joined for analysis by World Golf Hall of Famer Judy Rankin. and two-time U.S. Open champion Andy North. Jane Crafter and Bill Kratzert will report from the course.
All Ricoh Women’s British Open programming on ESPN2 and ESPN3 will also be available on computers, smartphones and tablets through WatchESPN and the WatchESPN app, which are accessible to fans who receive their video service from an affiliated provider. ESPN3 is also available through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold level members. ESPN Mobile TV will have live mobile video simulcasts of ESPN2’s telecasts.
In addition to the television coverage, ESPN.com and espnW.com will offer blogs, features and commentary from the event.
