Sablone Reclaims Gold in Women’s Skateboard Street
One Solid Run Put Alexis On Top From The Start
Alexis Sablone threw it down on her first run, notching an 85.66, the high score of the day, to take home her fourth X Games Medal, and second X Games gold, in Women’s Skateboard Street on Friday.
“I’m so relieved I can’t even tell you. Not even because I won, but because I get really nervous before these things. But it’s over and I did as well as I had hoped, so I’m pretty ecstatic,” Sablone said.
Sablone, who also earned the women’s skateboard street gold in 2010, nailed a run that started out on the roof with a kickflip over the roof gap, a kickflip over the gap into the wedge and a jump up the step up, which, according to her, was her biggest challenge.
“It took me until yesterday to even try it. I kept going full speed at it and turning at the last second because you’re down on a ramp and it’s way taller than you,” Sablone said.
Backing up Sablone with the silver was Leticia Bufoni who threw out some solid lip slides, a melon, a backside grind and a backside 180 to step up from her 2011 bronze.
“I’m so happy that I got silver and that I could skate with the best skaters in the world,” Bufoni said. Colorado’s Rachel Reinhard rounded out the podium in third to secure the first X Games medal of her career.
The Street Women’s competition showcases skaters performing tricks in a concrete plaza complete with stair sets, banks, manual pads and ledges. Judging is based on the overall impression of the athlete’s run whereas their best run counts.

X GAMES LOS ANGELES 2012
X Games Los Angeles 2012 will return to Los Angeles, Calif., June 28 – July 1, 2012, with live coverage on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. This year will mark the 10th consecutive year the event will be held in Los Angeles and will feature more than 200 of the world’s best athletes in the sports of BMX Freestyle, Rally Car, Moto X and Skateboard. ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC will televise 21 hours of LIVE high-definition programming, while ESPN3 will provide three additional hours of content. ESPN 3D will televise all 21 hours of Winter X Games over the four-day event.
