Impact journalism: On Monday, ESPN senior writer Mina Kimes and MLB Insider Jeff Passan reported on former New York Mets general manager Jared Porter sending explicit, unsolicited texts and images to a female reporter in 2016. The incredibly disturbing story led to Porter being fired by the Mets hours later and a reported further investigation planned by Major League Baseball.
ESPN MLB analyst Jessica Mendoza also voiced her reaction of “sadness and frustration” as she stressed how “things have to change” on the Outside the Lines segment on SportsCenter.

Journalists of Color Investigative Reporting Fellowship, which recently named four journalists as its 2021 Journalists of Color Investigative Reporting Fellows. Investigative Reporters and Editors Inc. is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of investigative reporting. Applications for the 2022 IRE Journalist of Color Investigative Reporting Fellowship will be available in October 2021.
