At the 23rd annual Women of the Year Awards Luncheon on June 22, Women in Sports and Events (WISE) celebrated industry leaders not only for their professional accomplishments, but also for the examples they have set and the contributions they have made to help support and elevate women in sports. Doris Burke was one of three WISE Women of the Year honorees at New York City’s Marriott Marquis, that also included Buffy Filippell and Amy Trask, plus WISE Champion Ted Leonsis.
Burke was introduced by her teammate and close friend Holly Rowe before a crowd of over 550 industry colleagues. During her acceptance speech, Burke noted, “To John Skipper and ESPN, I am incredibly grateful that they are, to me, the leaders in the industry in putting women in forward facing and what we would consider non-tradition roles.”
