ESPN NBA analyst Jalen Rose always will remember Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2016.
Rose joined former NBA All-Star Spencer Haywood and WNBA star Tamika Catchings as recipients of the prestigious National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Award. The award cites the honorees’ significant contributions to civil and human rights, including providing the foundation for future leaders through their careers in sports in the spirit of Dr. King.
Rose was recognized during a special, on-court ceremony at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn., prior to ESPN’s New Orleans Pelicans at Memphis Grizzlies NBA telecast.
“Receiving the 11th annual National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy award is a tremendous honor,” Rose said. “I’m extremely grateful to be recognized for my significant contributions to civil and human rights through my work with the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in my hometown of Detroit. It is important we all lay the foundation for future leaders in the spirit of Dr. King.”
