Marisa Dal Santo Takes Gold in Women’s Skateboard Street
After winning the bronze medal in last year’s X Games, La Grange, Illinois native Marisa Dal Santo came into this year’s competition looking to take the top spot as she did in 2009 and 2007.
That added pressure caused some nervous moments for Dal Santo, but you never would have known it as she scored an 88.00 on her third run of the finals, to capture gold in Women’s Skateboard Street.
“I was actually dreading this the whole year,” an exuberant Dal Santo said. “The last couple of days I have been breaking out in cold sweats. So to come out here and win is crazy. I just tried to land everything and it worked out. The course was a lot of fun and all the girls are great friends, this is one big happy family.”
Last year’s gold medalist Alexis Sablone, who was the top qualifier from round one, grabbed the silver with a top score of 84.33.
“It was very close,” Sablone said. “I had a very good first run, but I was still kind of nervous. It would have been nice to win, but I skated well and that is all that matters.”
Sao Paulo, Brazil’s Leticia Bufoni rounded out the medalists with a top score of 78.00.
The Street Women’s competition showcases skaters performing tricks in a concrete plaza complete with stair sets, banks, manual pads and ledges. Judging is based on the overall impression of the athlete’s run whereas their best run counts.

X Games 17
In its ninth year in Los Angeles, X Games 17 will feature more than 200 athletes at competition venues and event spaces including STAPLES Center and Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE. The 17th annual action sports competition to be held in Los Angeles July 28 – 31 and will debut the new discipline of Enduro X, as well as the first-ever rally street circuit running through the downtown area. ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC will combine to telecast 25 hours of live X Games 17 competition. In addition to the 25 original hours in high definition, the Worldwide Leader in Action Sports will also televise 21 hours of X Games action on ESPN 3D. More than 29 hours will also be distributed on ESPN3.com.
